Renowned Musician Zahara Passes Away After Hospitalization

Multi-award-winning musician Zahara, known as Bulelwa Mkutukana in real life, has sadly passed away at a private Johannesburg Hospital on Monday night. Her fiancé, Mpho Xaba, was present by her bedside during her final moments.

The 34-year-old Loliwe hitmaker had been admitted to the hospital due to liver complications two weeks prior. According to a source close to the musician, Zahara passed away just before 9pm.

"The family will release a statement soon. She was with Mpho when she passed away," the source added.

Oyama Dyosiba, the spokesperson for the Mkutukana family and Zahara's cousin, expressed difficulty in reaching Xaba on Monday night, stating, "I am getting calls from everywhere. I am in Cape Town and doing my best to get hold of Mpho. I can't get hold of him."

A week earlier, the family had confirmed Zahara's hospitalization for a week, expressing gratitude for the support and concern received for the ailing musician. Despite efforts to keep her health condition private, misinformation circulated online, prompting the family to emphasize that official updates on Zahara's health would come through her verified social media channels.

Hailing from East London, Zahara's family had also joined Xaba in Johannesburg to be by her side. Initially admitted to a medical ward, Zahara's condition worsened, leading to her transfer to the ICU section of the hospital.

Throughout her career, Zahara soared to success with five bestselling studio albums, notably her double platinum debut, Loliwe (2011), and her latest release, Nqaba Yam (2021), both reaching number 1 on iTunes. Her musical prowess garnered numerous awards and cemented her as a respected figure in the industry.
